Eligibility
The Westlake Chemical Corporation will award two (2) college scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year at area high schools (Calloway, Christian Fellowship, Graves, Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, Mayfield, McCracken, Murray, Paducah Tilghman, St. Mary). Each scholarship award is a one-time grant of $1,000 to help cover the cost of higher education. Payments are made directly to the recipient upon adequate proof of enrollment.
To be eligible applicants must:
be a 2024 candidate for high school graduation,
have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale),
have a composite ACT score of at least a 23 or above OR a composite SAT score of at least 1500, and
plan to major in Engineering at an accredited institution of higher learning.
Rules
The local Westlake management shall select an awards committee to review all application materials and select the scholarship recipients.
The award committee will give consideration only to applicants planning to major in Engineering.
Recipients should enter any accredited college or university no later than the fall semester following high school graduation.
Application and information must be postmarked by April 5, 2024 or hand delivered by that date to the plant in Calvert City.
Applicants must provide two (2) letters of recommendation, one from a school official and one personal (non-relative) reference.
Applicants must submit an essay, not to exceed 300 words, about their reasons for pursuing their career choice.
Applicants must submit an official school transcript of grades and an official record of ACT and/or SAT scores.
The award committee will make the final determination on all cases concerning the interpretation of these rules. All applications become the property of Westlake Chemical Corporation and will not be returned.
The deadline for submissions is April 5, 2024.
